Redact PDF

The redaction is real: pages with marked areas are converted into an image on the server, truly erasing the text underneath — it's not just a black rectangle drawn over the PDF. As a result, those pages lose searchable or selectable text, which is expected for genuine redaction.

Redact PDF: hide sensitive information permanently
Covering a passage with a black rectangle seems enough, but the text underneath is still in the file and can be copied. True redaction actually removes the information. In this tool, pages with marked areas are converted to images on the server, erasing the text that was under the marks.
It is the right procedure for personal data, ID numbers, amounts and names that must be left out before sharing a file.

When to use this tool
- Hiding ID numbers, addresses and phone numbers before sending documents.
- Preparing copies of contracts without confidential amounts or names.
- Sharing legal or medical documents with personal data removed.
- Publishing documents required for transparency while leaving out protected data.
Tips for a good result
- Redacted pages become images, so their text is no longer searchable or selectable. That is expected.
- When marking by hand, go slightly beyond the passage so no letters remain visible at the edges. Areas created by Find already include a margin.
- A piece of data often appears on more than one page (the name in the header, the ID number in the footer). Use Find so no occurrence is left out.
- Find relies on the PDF’s text. In scanned documents, which are only images, mark the areas with the mouse.
- After redacting, open the result and try selecting text in the hidden area to confirm it was removed.
Frequently asked questions
Why do only the marked pages change?
The conversion to an image is applied to pages that have marked areas. The others stay as they were.
Is redaction reversible?
No. The text under the marks is removed from the generated file. Keep the original in a safe place if you need it.
How is this different from Edit PDF with a black shape?
A black shape only covers the text visually. Redaction eliminates the content underneath, so it cannot be copied.
What are the limits of the free plan?
The free plan allows 10 conversions per day, with files up to 60 MB and no sign-up required. The Premium plan removes the daily limit and the ads.
